Thomas G. Kappauf, 88, of Lake Placid passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014. Born in Bellmore, Long Island, NY on January 14, 1926 he was the youngest of ten and proudly served in the US Army, in Europe, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Tom loved to grow plants and trees and operated a landscape business in New York. In 1962 he moved to Naples, Florida, where he owned a fish camp. Tom was a licensed Charter Captain and had many tales of his adventures on the water. In 1955 he married Betty Anne (nee Buehler) and they had four children. In 1986 they moved to Lake Placid where together they enjoyed fishing, gardening and travel. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty, sons Tom Jr., Lake Placid, John, Okeechobee, Wayne and his wife Melody, Marco Island, daughter Debbie and her husband Matt Treadwell,Lumpkin, GA, grandson Kyle Kappauf, Naples and great granddaughter Kayla, Naples. Tom will be deeply missed by his family, friends and his many fishing buddies. A private service for the family to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at a later date.
