Obituary for Charles L Young

Charles L. Young, 86, of Lake Placid, FL passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring. He was born in Sandusky, OH on November 7, 1928, to parents Mary (Francis) and Louis Young and lived most of his life in the Sandusky area. He moved to Lake Placid in 2002. Charlie made his living as a skilled mason, originally as an independent businessman and later with General Motors at the New Departure plant in Sandusky. He was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church while in Sandusky and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Placid. Charlie was a Life Member of the Elks, receiving his 60 year pin, and spent many happy hours there with friends. For much of his life, he enjoyed bowling and playing golf and participated in a number of Sandusky area leagues. In his later years, he read, worked word puzzles and continued to follow sports on TV. Charlie loved being with people, and people loved being with Charlie. Charlie is survived by his loving children Linda Thomas, Ellen (Blair) Miller, Douglas (Kay) Young and Louis (Jan) Young; grandchildren Andy Thomas, Julie Thomas, Brian (Lindsey) Miller, Laurel (Rick) Mack and Nathan Young; four great-grandchildren; loving sisters Evelyn Behrendsen, Marilyn McKinney and Lois Doyle; numerous nieces and nephews; five stepchildren, including Leslie (John) Sertell and their children Zachary and Jacqueline. He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Laura Young and wives Peggy, Midge and Barbara. A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held at a later date in Sandusky. The family suggests donations in Charlie’s memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund 25 Lakeview Street Lake Placid, FL 33852, the Sandusky Elks Lodge #285 Scholarship Fund, 120 East Adams Street, Sandusky, OH 44870 or your favorite charity.
