Obituary for Elsie Magill Zellner

Elsie Magill Zellner, 90, of Lake Placid went to be with her Lord on Wednesday morning July 9, 2014 at her residence. She was born on March 24, 1924 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to parents Edna McRoberts Magill and David Samuel Gordon Magill. Mrs. Zellner moved to Lake Placid in 1988 from Oneida, New York. She attended Syracuse University and was a life long Orangeman fan. For 43 years, from 1945 to 1988 she worked with her husband Carleton Martin Zellner, DVM at the Zellner Animal Hospital, an AAHA Certified Facility on Glenwood Avenue, Oneida, New York. She was a member of the Lake Placid Women’s Club, Highlands County Audubon Society, Placid Lakes Country Club and St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Episcopal Church where she was an active member. Mrs. Zellner was an avid reader who appreciated nature and beauty. She enjoyed a good game of golf at Kanon Valley in Oneida and at Lake Placid CC,, Florida. She also enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, Progress Club, and boating and beach activities at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake, Lake June in Winter, and Myrtle Beach. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family and friends. She was generous to Syracuse University, Cornell University, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Salvation Army. Mrs. Zellner was preceded in death by her loving husband Carleton on September 2, 2003 after 58 years of happy christian marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Diane Zellner of Rome, NY; son, Eric Gordon Bryan Zellner, MD and daughter-in-law Paula Watkins Zellner, MD of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth Gordon Zellner, MD of New Haven, Connecticut and Diana Denton Zellner, student DO of Athens, Ohio. In her later years, maintained her independence in her own home while providing counsel, love, and support to her close but geographically diverse family. She was a strong presence in their lives and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday (today) July 13, 2014 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid FL. A Funeral-Holy Eucharist Service to Celebrate Mrs. Zellner’s life will be held 11:00 AM Monday July 14, 2014 at the St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Episcopal Church 43 Lake June Road, Lake Placid with Rev. Elizabeth Nelson officiating. Interment with her mother, father, and loving husband will occur 11:00AM Saturday July 19, 2014 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneida, NY after calling hours at Campbell-Dean Funeral Home on Friday evening.
