Obituary for
Layson "Tarr" Doty Dvm
Dr. Layson "Tarr" Doty, DVM, 89, of Lake Placid, went to be with his Lord on Monday night April 25, 2016 at his residence. He was the son of Esther and James Doty, Sr., and was born on November 20, 1926 in Bourbon County, KY.
Dr. Doty served his country with honors in the US Army during WWII. After attending the University of Kentucky he graduated from The Ohio State University Veterinary College in 1954. Moving to Miami he founded the Southwest Animal Hospital with a partner. After many years of enjoying "the lake house" on weekends he moved to Lake Placid in the late 1980's.
Tarr was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Placid serving on the elder board for many years. He enjoyed all his family and loved to watch them swim and boat in his lake.
Dr. Doty was preceded in death by his first wife, JoAn and daughter, Barbara. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Joyce; daughters, Virginia Parks and Pamela Kaylor; son, James T. Doty; step-children; Jeanette Thomson, Susan Meyer, and Ken Steele; 20 grand-children; 19 great-grand-children; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Tarr's life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid, 118 North Oak Ave., Lake Placid with his long-time friend and pastor Rev. Ray Cameron officiating. A visitation for the family and friends will be one hour prior to service time. At the request of Dr. Doty, in lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid. Further services & burial will be held in Millersburg, KY.
