David W. Behnke
David W. Behnke, “Pop”, 81, of Lake Placid passed away of natural causes on the night August 8, 2016 at the Lake Placid Health and Rehabilitation Center. The son of Elizabeth Meier and Benjamin Behnke, David was born on September 25, 1934 in New Haven, CT. Mr. Behnke served his country and retired with honors as a Captain in the US Air Force. After retiring as an attorney in Connecticut, David and his wife Annelies started spending winters here in Lake Placid before becoming full time residents in 2015. In their later years, David and Annelies travelled the world and enjoyed many wonderful experiences together. David was a member of the VFW and was raised Seventh Day Adventist. A skilled builder, he spent much of his life honing his carpentry gifts. David generously shared his knowledge with his children as the master builder of the family. He was passionate about trains, classical music, classic cars, wildlife and boating. He loved animals, especially the numerous cats and dogs that were part of his life's journey. Mr. Behnke loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. David was a beloved person who made people smile with his infectious laugh and charming demeanor. As a young man, he had a beautiful singing voice that resonated throughout the home and into people's hearts. David had a heart of gold and embraced life to the fullest. He left an indelible impression on all those who knew him. Mr. Behnke is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Annelies; daughter Lisa (Kort); sons, Jerry (Claudia) and Chris (Jennifer); six grandchildren, Sabrina, Steven, Connor, Kyle, Kyra, Alanna and one great grandson, Benjamin. A service to celebrate David’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Rev. Richard Norris officiating.
