Obituary for James Willard Hays

James Willard Hays, 89, of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord early Friday morning September 2nd, 2016 at his residence. James was born in Arcadia, FL on January 9th, 1927, the son of Marylou Mathis and John F (Bud) Hays Sr. A life long resident of Lake Placid, Mr. Hays served his country in the US Air Force for 28 years retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Mr. Hays was a member of the American Legion Placid Post 25, life member of the Placid Lakes Country Club Mens Association, Lake Placid Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Shrine. Mr. Hays was of the Methodist faith. James enjoyed playing a good game of golf and fishing the local lakes. He loved to be with his family and friends. Mr. Hays is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Nell; daughter, Nancy Allen (Edgar); son, Johnny Hays (Donna); 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, the mother of his children, Doris Hays, sister in law Evelyn Hays, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers John F Hays Jr and Ralph L Hays. A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Hays' life will be held at 11AM Wednesday, September 7th, 2016 at Scott Funeral Home 504 W Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid, FL with father Antonio Jean and Rev. Richard Norris officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard. The family suggests donations in James' memory to Good Shepherd Hospice 1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33872 or your favorite charity.
