Obituary for
Marvin P Bixler
Marvin P. Bixler, 95, of Lake Placid, FL passed away on September 10, 2016. He was
born August 20, 1921 to the late William and Alice (Lennen) Bixler in Hardscrabble, IN.
He graduated from Lapel High School, Lapel, IN in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy
during WWII. He retired in 1980 after 39 years with Delco Remy, division of General
Motors in Anderson, IN.
He retired to Lake Placid, FL in 1980 with his wife Iris. He was a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Lake Placid, attended Lake Placid Masonic Lodge #282 and was
a 50 year member of Lapel Masonic Lodge #625.
He was a family man and loved spending time with those he loved. He is survived by
five children, Margaret (Dale) Erwin, Daniel (Christine) Bixler, Donald (Nancy) Bixler,
Mary (Scott) Landis and Lora Mills, eleven grandchildren and fifteen great
grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Iris
(Breedlove) Bixler who passed away in 1991. His brothers Delbert and Billy Bixler also
preceded him in death.
He was a hard worker and instilled his work ethic securely in his family. Heloved fishing
his entire life and until recently continued to repair fishing reels, rods and build new
fishing poles. He met and became friends with many of the people that stopped by his
house to see if he could fix their fishing tackle. His garage was his workshop where he
loved to be the most.
Viewing will be at Scott Funeral Home from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, September 15, 2016,
with Masonic Services at 6pm. A funeral service to celebrate Marvin’s life will be held
at 11am on Friday, September 16 th at the First Presbyterian Church on 119 Oak Avenue in
Lake Placid with Rev. Ray Cameron and Rev. Drew Severance officiating. Military
honors will be provided with the United States Navy Honor Guard. Burial will be at the
Oak Hill Cemetery following the service. The family suggests Memorial Contributions
in Marvin’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid at PO Box 326 in
