Obituary for Evelyn M. Huggins

Evelyn M. Huggins, 89, of Lake Placid went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning December 22, 2016 at the Florida Hospital Lake Placid. The daughter of Emily Dube and Daniel Gilmore, Evelyn was born in Salem, New Hampshire on April 28, 1927. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years John Leon Huggins, her sisters Lillian Johnston and Geraldine Griffin. She is survived by her loving children Danielle Price (William) and John L. Huggins II (Marilou); a loving grandmother (Memere) to Cassandra A. Price McDonald (Michael) and John L. Huggins III, two sisters, Dorothy Beal and Gloria Adams; a caring aunt to several nieces and nephews. In 1952 Evelyn held the title of Miss Salem. She started her career in banking at the Salem Co-Op Bank in Salem, NH. She retired with 20 years of service with the Bank of America, formally, Barnett Bank which was formally First State Bank in Hialeah. She has spent her 30 plus years of retirement in Lake Placid, FL. Evelyn belonged to the Sebring Red Hat Society-Foxy Ladies of Sebring, the Placid Lakes Home Owners Association, and was an active member of St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid. Evelyn enjoyed many hobbies, especially arts and crafts, she taught a variety of arts and craft classes in her younger years, family and friends have cherished the handmade Santa's she lovingly made for them. She is an avid traveler, visiting most of the US and abroad to many destinations. She loved to be with her family and friends especially her grandchildren. A funeral service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held 12 Noon, Saturday December 24, 2016 at Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Father Anthonio Jean officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Further services and burial will take place in Chuckey, TN.
