Obituary for Robert A. Taft

Robert Andrew Taft, 88, of Lake Placid, Florida, formally of Shelburne and Lake Elmore, Vermont passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Vitas Hospice in Sebring. Robert, the son of Leona (Blouin) and Louis Taft was born on September 27, 1928 in Barre, Vermont. Mr. Taft dropped out of high school to join the Army and served his country with honors in Occupied Japan. Robert completed his GED in the Army, and went on to graduate from Chicago Tech, with a degree in architecture and design. He also earned trade honors, becoming a master electrician and master plumber. Robert retired from Taft Development, a development and construction company with both commercial and residential projects in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire. He was a man known for his caring, generosity and honor. His word and his handshake was as binding as any legal document. Following his retirement he became a full time RVer who loved to travel with his wife, Ingrid. Robert loved to be with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and could keep people entertained for hours. Robert is preceded in death by his first wife Janice (Eaton), his brothers and their wives, Louis and Priscilla, Frances and Leah. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Ingrid; his children, Douglas and wife Charlotte of Randolph Center, Vt, JoAnn Taft-Blakely and husband Dana of Colchester, Vt, Robert of Starksboro, Vt; his step children Scott Meador and wife Eileen of Mamaroneck, NY and Kristen Dillon and husband Matt of Hilton Head, SC; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a sister Jill Cano of Montpelier, Vt. At Robert's request a private celebration of his life and internment will take place at a later date in Vermont. Contributions in Robert's name can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
