Thomas N. "Tom"  Hopp
Thomas N. Hopp, 82, of Lake Placid died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was the son of Helen (Horton) and Ralph Hopp. He was born on November 9, 1934 in Elgin, Illinois. Thomas earned a bachelor degree in fine arts at Bradley University. He served his country with honors in the US Army with the 7th Armor Division in Europe where he met the love of his life; Marlies whom he married in 1958. Thomas owned and operated "Tom Hopp Advertising" in Elgin, IL. After retiring, he and Marlies moved to Arkansas, then moving to Lake Placid, where he has been a resident for the past 18 years. Thomas was a past member of the Lake Placid Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was very active within the Tomoka Heights community. Tom served on the board of Tomoka Home Owners Association and participated in their many community events; landscaping, decorating the club house and assisting within the community in numerous ways. Thomas enjoyed being outdoors and had numerous other interest; working in his beautiful yard, playing cards, boating and stained glass. He loved being around his family and friends especially his two grandchildren. Thomas was of the Christian faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marlies, daughters; Colette Price and Sara Hopp-Castillo, two grandchildren; Ryan and Marly and his sister; Mary Grandt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David. A gathering to celebrate Thomas's life will be held 1:00 PM this Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the Tomoka Heights Club House. Military honors will be provided by the US Army Color Guard.
