Obituary for Albin J. ""Big Al"" Pelski

Albin J. Pelski passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the age of 72, following a valiant battle with cancer. Al was born on February 23, 1945 in Ware, MA to Frank and Stephanie Pelski. He is survived by his two loving children, Patti Ciaffone (Lewis DeMoss) and Andrew Pelski (Tammy) who together blessed him with five beautiful grandchildren, Christopher Ciaffone (Becca), Caroline Ciaffone, Jamie Ciaffone (Krista Baroody), Nieya Pelski and Ryan Pelski and one adorable great grandchild, Carson Ciaffone. He was pre-deceased by his two older brothers William and Raymond Pelski, and is survived by his two sisters, Jane Robertshaw and Dottie O’Brien (Terry). Al always had a true love of life. When he was a young man his true passion was fishing. Many fish stories have been told about Al as a boy sleeping on a bridge so he could find just the right fishing spot. In his later years, he attended Toby’s Clown School where he took on the personality of Big Al the Clown. Big Al also found his voice and became Highlands County’s first ever Elvis entertainer. Al devoted himself to the local community, donating his time to may community events and organizations. He served as President of Toby’s Clown foundation and most recently as curator of its clown museum. He has been Exalted Ruler of the Lake Placid Elks, Worshipful Master of the Masons, very proudly sang as a member of the choir at St. Francis Episcopal Church for many years, as well as repeatedly donating his A/C services to the less fortunate in town. Al will always be remembered for his zest for life and his love for his family. Please help us celebrate the life of Al, this wonderful man by attending his memorial service 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, 43 Lake June Road, Lake Placid with Rev. Elizabeth Nelson officiating. There will be a gathering for family and friends to reflect back on Al’s life in the fellowship hall following the services. In Big Al’s memory the family suggests donations be made to the Shriners Clown’s, an organization that Big Al was fond of and generously donated all his beloved clown costumes to, at the end of his life. Envelopes will be made available at the Church.
