Obituary for Frank Burel Thornton

Frank Burel Thornton, 85, of Lake Placid, went home to be with his Lord early Tuesday morning August 22, 2017 at the Southern Lifestyles Assisted Living in Lake Placid. Frank was the son of Herbert and Sallie Thornton. He was born on March 15, 1932 in Elberton, Georgia. Frank served his country with honors in the US Air Force. With his knowledge of jet engines, he became the vice president of Jet Avion of Hollywood which handled jet engine parts. After retiring in 1986, Frank moved from Hollywood, FL to Lake Placid, FL. Frank was an avid golfer who enjoyed spending time out on the course, fishing the local lakes and working in the yard. Frank loved to be with his family and friends especially his grandchildren. While living here, he picked up the nickname of Mr.’T” by the local children in the community. Mr. Thornton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Betty, son; Dennis Mikes (Lisa) 3 granddaughters; Ashley Mikes, Shannon Brown (Dakota) and Madeline Mikes, grandson; Christopher Hill (Olivia); a great-grandson; Corran Hill and a sister; Francis. Services to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at a later date.
