Jackey Jo ""Jack"" Donaldson
Jackey Jo “Jack” Donaldson, 80, of Lake Placid passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon September 13, 2017 at Tampa General Hospital. Jack was born on June 11, 1937, in Confidence, Iowa to Edith (Brown) and Jack Donaldson. He attended Corydon High School and graduated with the class of 1955.
He attended Iowa State and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1959. He started working for RR Donnelly and Sons, and Sunbeam. Then Jack began his 45 years working in the plastics industry, working for Mobil Chemical, Waste Management and Avery before retiring. His name is on 5 patents having to do with plastics and their development. After retiring he moved to Lake Placid from Chardon, Ohio in 2003. Jack was an avid reader who enjoyed a good novel, traveling the world, volunteering with the Friends of the Lake Placid Public Library, a good game of cards, and cooking for his family and friends. Jack was a member of the Lake Placid Elks Lodge and was of the Christian faith. He is preceded in death by his mother, Edith and his son, Jack. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Susan, daughters: Cynthia Donaldson of Otego, NY and Elizabeth Donaldson of Hamilton, NJ and extended family members. A service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Rev. Richard Norris officiating. A gathering for family and friends to reflect on Jack’s life will be one hour prior to service time. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made of a book or donation to your local library in Jack’s memory or to the Lake Placid Memorial Library “Friends of the Library” 205 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid.
