Obituary for Thelma E. Rhoades

Thelma E. Rhoades, 99, of Lake Placid went home to be with her Lord on Saturday night November 4, 2017 at her residence. Thelma was the daughter of Effie (Shireman) and Floyd Stilabower who was born on April 15, 1918 in Columbus, Indiana. She moved from Columbus in 1956 to Miami where she was a school teacher with the public school system. She and her husband moved to Lake Placid from Miami in 1974. Once she got settled in, Mrs. Rhoades became an active member in her church the First Presbyterian Church Lake Placid where she was involved with the Women’s Ministry and the Crafty Sowers. She also was involved with many of the community activities including the Lake Placid Historical Society, Friends of the Lake Placid Library and the Lake Placid Country Fair. Mrs. Rhoades was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Rhoades is preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald, sisters; Violet Moore and Dorothea Zewin, brother; Harold Stilabower and her parents. She is survived by her children; Ruth Josey, Richard (Jane) and John (Dawna) Rhoades, 8 grandchildren; Anita King (Lon), Allen Josey (Nicki), Kristine Hardin, Michelle Lehrach, Robert Rhoades (Vanessa), Phillip Jarrell (Jessica), Benjamin Rhoades and Deanna Rhoades, 10 great grandchildren: Amanda Lawson (Troy), Logan King (Anna), Luke Josey, Madelyn Josey, Kyle Hardin, Emily Lehrach, Abigail Lehrach, Henry Rhoades, George Rhoades, Violet Rhoades and Isabella Jarrell and 2 great-great grandchildren; Henry Lawson and Eli Lawson, Sister In-law Louise Stilabower (Harold), several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, November 6, 2017 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd. Lake Placid. A funeral service to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church 118 N. Oak Avenue Lake Placid with Rev. Ray Cameron and Rev. Drew Severance officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to the husband. In lieu of flowers a donation to the First Presbyterian Genesis Center Building Fund would be greatly appreciated.
