Obituary for Gerald W. Kingsbury

Gerald W. Kingsbury, 70, of Lake Placid died on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at the Florida Hospital Lake Placid. He was born in Floyd, NY on August 26, 1943 to parents Charles and Beverly Kingsbury. He was a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. He began his career at the Marcy State Hospital in 1962. In 1978 he moved to Castleton-on-Hudson, NY. He worked at the Capital District Psychiatric Center, Albany, NY, until his retirement in October 1998 after 36 and a half years with the New York State Office of Mental Health. On December 22, 2006 he received the most generous gift-A double lung transplant that changed his life forever. He owes a great deal to the Donor family as well as Dr. Baz, Dr. Akindipie, and Dr. Ferdinand-Bussey and the whole Transplant Team at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. He was known for his generosity, compassion, and sense of humor and fair play. He loved all types of music and enjoyed playing guitar, was very prolific with his watercolor painting and thanks his instructor Jeni Novak for her patience and support. Many of his paintings can be seen throughout the northeast as well as in Canada and Argentina. His beloved wife of 35 years Marion and two stepsons, Michael Panetta (Diane), Sebring, FL and Steven Panetta, Troy, NY; three step-grandchildren, Amy Panetta, Albany, NY, Alicia Lynn Panetta, Watervliet, NY and Stephanie, Troy, NY; 8 step-great grandchildren. His best friends Robert Stooks, Ravena, NY, Roger and Gail Helmer Remsem, NY, Doug Harman Lake Placid, FL, and all of his Nursing School classmates survive him. He was a brother to Robert, Rome, NY, Brenda Henness and Linda Garrett, both Rome, NY, Karen Crissey, Adam, NY and Patricia Kingsbury, Castleton-on-Hudson, NY and a half brother to Christopher Kingsbury. He was a nephew to his two favorite aunts Shirley Dempsey and Lois Mitchell of Floyd, NY. He was predeceased by his parents; Brothers, Charles A., David, and Step son, Richard V. Panetta and Great Granddaughter, Brandi. Funeral service will be a very private affair per his wishes. His cremains will be interred at the Prospect Hills Cemetery in Valatie, NY at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests donations in Gerald’s memory to Placid Lakes Vol Fire Department, PO Box 1538 Lake Placid, FL 33862 or your local fire department or ambulance service.
