Obituary for Willie E. McKinnie

Willie E. McKinnie, 80, of Pinellas Park, formally of Lake Placid went to be with his Lord on Monday morning May 1, 2017 at the Sun Coast Hospice is St. Petersburg, FL. A life long resident of Highlands County, Willie was the son of Bessie Godwin and John Wesley McKinnie who was born on June 21, 1936. Willie had a passion for reading and studying the Bible which led him to become a minister in the Church of God faith. He preached for many years in the Highlands area until his retirement. Willie enjoyed all sports especially basketball as he was a star with the Lake Placid High School basketball team. Mr. McKinnie was a member of the Placid Temple Church of God in Lake Placid. Mr. McKinnie is preceded in death by his loving daughter; Sheila, sisters: Pansy, Myrtle, Irene and Mildred; a brother, John Wesley McKinnie. Willie is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Ellen, daughter; Janice Hulbert, sons; John Wesley, Stephen and David, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a sister; Eva Joyner. A funeral service to celebrate Willie’s life will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Scott Funeral Home 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid with Rev. Belinda West officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Placid.
