Obituary for Michael D. Ayers

Michael D. Ayers, 72, of Lake Placid, FL and Davenport, IA went to be with the Lord, early Saturday morning, January 20, 2018 at the Florida Hospital in Tampa. Michael was the son of Joan (Sherman) and Donald Howard Ayers, who was born on November 10, 1945 in Iowa City, Iowa. Michael served his country with honors in the US Army Reserves. Michael worked in the trucking industry for many years as a Detroit Diesel mechanic and heavy truck salesman, selling International and Freightliner trucks. After retiring, Michael and his wife Nola became winter residents here in Lake Placid. Michael was of the Lutheran faith and attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Placid. On most days, Michael could be found out on the golf course enjoying a good round or out on the local lakes fishing for that trophy bass. When home in Iowa, Michael enjoyed racing late model stock cars with his sons, golfing, boating and spending time at his river cabin. He loved to spend time with his family and friends especially his grandchildren. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Joan Ayers and his loving wife of 48 years, Nola Ayers. Michael is survived by his loving sons Donald Ayers (Tamera) and Douglas Ayers (Michelle), two grandchildren, one great granddaughter, four sisters; Suzzie, Linda, Pat and Debbie and three brothers; Jim, Jack and Dale. A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd. Lake Placid with Rev. Richard Norris officiating. Michael will be laid to rest next to his wife Nola at a later date at the Pine Hill Cemetery in Davenport.
