Elizabeth Baker "Betty"  Simmons
Elizabeth Baker Simmons, 65, of Lake Placid passed away Tuesday morning September 5, 2017 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was born on November 14, 1951 in Ithaca, New York to John H. and Mary Baker. “Betty” attended Lake Placid schools, graduating in 1970. She attended North Florida Junior College in Madison, FL., where she met her future husband, David L. Simmons. Betty and David were married in Eustis, FL on July 7, 1973. Betty will be remembered within the Highlands County area for her many years of volunteer work with children in the 4-H Club. She was recognized with a plaque for 24 years of service. Betty enjoyed doing crafts, working with children and raising animals. She loved to spend time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, David, mother; Mary, four daughters; Mary Miranda (Sam), Jacqueline Harris (Todd), Christina Clark (Matt) and Holly Simmons. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters; Lee West, John Baker (Karen), Kathy Seymour (Neil), Tim Baker (Maggie) and George Baker. Betty also leaves behind 13 grandchildren of whom she was very proud. A gathering for family and friends will be held 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday (Today) September 7, 2017 at the Scott Funeral Home, 504 W. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 8, 2017 at the St. James Catholic Church 3380 Placid View Drive, Lake Placid with Father Anthonio Jean officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family suggests donations in Betty’s memory to the Highlands County 4-H Clubs c/o The Bert Harris Agricultural Center, National Kidney Foundation 30 East 33rd Street New York, NY 10016 or the American Diabetes Association 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22208.
