My 2nd Mom

Betty Simmons, Mrs Simmons for most of my life, has been my second mom.  I've often been referred to as the "5th Simmons daughter."  I'll never forget one summer - she was at 4-H Congress, as a Highlands County 4-H chaperone, and I was a student asistant for the 4-H office, and a resident of Gainesville, and she and Mr Simmons gave me a hard time because I was walking to my car (alone-ish) on campus.  In hindsight, it's nice to have a 2nd set of parents!  But at the time, I rolled my eyes at their protection.  Betty could give you a look of disapproval or of encouragement from across the room.

Betty loved her grandchildren.  She loved to tell me how many she now had, who had one on the way, which ones were participating in 4-H, what projects they were working on, etc.  Those grandchildren were her life!  And 4-H became everyone's life.

I'll miss her smile, her looks of encouragement and happiness.  Her love - which had no bounds.  Rest in peace, Betty.

Eternal rest grant unto Betty, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her! Amen.
